Initiatives with Iwate Hospice Association
This year marks the 15th year of our collaboration with Iwate Hospice Association. It all started when we were impressed by the activities of Iwate Hospice Association on a television program broadcast in 2009 and contacted them immediately after the broadcast. Initially, we only donated towels, but with the desire to do something that would reach the hearts of patients more deeply, in 2013 we jointly developed towel hats that are comfortable to the touch and to reduce patients' stress even a little. We manufacture and sell the towel hats, and donate 5% of sales to Iwate Hospice Association as support funds.
New initiatives for the next generation
Ami Sugawara (now a teacher at Hara Junior High School), who participated in a towel hat making event organized by the Iwate Hospice Association during her high school days, has used that experience to become the branch representative of the Hara Village Towel Hat Salon, and is expanding the scope of her activities.
The branch had previously made hats for adults, but wanted to bring smiles to children who were suffering from the side effects of chemotherapy, so they tried making hats for children. They sent prototypes to hospitals and went through a process of trial and error based on feedback. The completed towel hats for children were delivered to Nagano Prefectural Children's Hospital (Azumino City) with a message of support for the hospitalized children.
